ALOE CARE

Aloe Care is a new Personal Emergency Response system designed to empower Elders and their families. Instead of a traditional and somewhat humiliating emergency button worn around the neck, Aloe Care uses noise canceling microphones and smart sensors to detect falls. The product blends into any home environment and allows for drop-in speaker phone calls with loved ones. On board sensors monitor the temperature, light level, air quality, and more to ensure everything is OK at home.

Working with informal, I put together a team comprised of an Industrial Designer, Electrical Engineer, Firmware Engineer and Supply Chain Manager. I acted as the Project Manager and Product Design Engineer, working with Aloe to understand their needs and take their existing proof of concept and Beta products and transform them into a unique product with their own brand identity.

My responsibilities included:
- Breaking up the Industrial Design Model into separate Injection Molded parts
- Working with vendors to ensure each part is manufacturable
- Sourcing and assembling 3D printed prototypes
- Working with a Serbian development house on PCBA design and component selection and layout
- Designing packaging and paper pulp trays to ensure un-boxing is simple for those with Arthritis and other impairments.

My favorite part of this project was designing the light ring and emergency button. I fine tuned the force required to activate the emergency button to ensure it was easy to trigger even if it is pressed off angle. The light ring is illuminated evenly by a series of LEDs which are diffused by bouncing light between polished white surfaces.
